Hughes & Co’s number one strategy for increasing website traffic

Two weeks ago, we released some client results that we are incredibly proud of. In case you missed that post, and in summary, we were able to increase our client's average monthly website traffic by 161%. While this stat is incredible, the strategy behind it is one of our go-to favourites.

We believe whole heartedly in implementing a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy on every website that we touch. An SEO strategy allows us to increase the overall traffic to our clients website and in turn, allows the website to become a lead and sales pipeline.

Why building your organic traffic is important

Think of how you use the internet to shop or search for services or products. First, you put your search words into Google/Bing/Yahoo, but then when the search list appears which link do you normally click? We bet it would be the first three, maybe the next few after those if they don't turn out to be relevant.

It's how the internet uses a search engine and it is why those websites that focus on a SEO strategy are able to increase their website traffic. Often, visitors who visit your website from a search engine offer your company a great lead opportunity because they are searching for a product or service that could be exactly what you offer.

How to start improving the SEO on your website

The Google search engine is competitive real estate and even marketers who spend day in and day out building SEO strategies for enterprise level companies can't figure out Google's algorithm. However, we do know enough to make real strides in improving on and off page SEO to drive organic traffic.

Google's SEO rankings are based around user behaviour and we can find a lot about what the user wants by learning about what keywords they use to search for products or services in various industries. Once keywords are determined, they can be applied to each page of a website to encourage better search results.
